Preface
This book is the story of two friends named Zoe and Sebastian. They’ve just finished college and are spending a year traveling around the world before they settle down and find jobs. Zoe travels through Europe, the Middle East, South Africa, Australasia and East Asia. Sebastian travels through South America, North America, India, and East Asia. Though the friends aren’t traveling together, they are corresponding with each other through emails and postcards and letting the other know the exciting things they are seeing and doing on their trip.
There are forty chapters in this book, and every chapter covers a different city. Each chapter starts off with a postcard that one of the travelers sends off to the other stating what they’re doing in that city. In many of the postcards, there are slang and colloquial expressions which are explained in an afternote. A reading passage follows that gives information about a certain highlight of the city. There are true and false as well as multiple-choice questions to test your comprehension of the reading passage, so read carefully! There is also a word bank that explains vocabulary. A graph then follows to test your evaluating skills. Finally, each chapter ends with the receiver of the postcard answering the friend with an email telling where they will go next, giving a hint of what’s to come in the next chapter.
By reading this book, you’ll learn about exciting cities and some of the things they are famous for. Whether it’s festivals, beaches, or museums, you’ll learn that every city in the world has something special to offer. The world is a fascinating place. Not only will this book help you to improve your skills in English, but it will also teach you about different cities around the world. This book might even encourage you to pack your bags and go see them for yourself!

這本書是兩位朋友若伊和西巴斯辰的故事。他們剛完成大學的學業，找工作安頓下來之前，他們花了一年的時間在世界各地旅行。若伊在歐洲、中東、南非、澳洲和東亞旅遊，而西巴斯辰在南美、北美、印度和東亞旅遊。雖然這兩個朋友沒有在一起旅行，但是他們靠著明信片和電子郵件聯絡彼此，讓對方知道他們在旅行中看到的事物以及做了些什麼事。
這本書有四十章，每一章介紹一個城市，每一章由明信片帶出，是其中一個人寄給對方的明信片（Postcard），描述他們在那個城市做的事情。明信片裡的慣用語和口語表達的措辭會在〈Word Bank I〉中詳解。接下來的部分是閱讀短文（Reading Passage），為每個城市的重點介紹。閱讀短文後有是非題（True or False）和選擇題（Multiple Choice），評量讀者對內容的了解程度，所以要仔細閱讀才行！閱讀測驗的部分也有〈Word Bank II〉來詳釋字彙。之後有一個圖表測驗（Graph），測試你閱讀英文表格的能力。最後，每章以明信片收件人寄給對方的電子郵件（Email）結尾，附有〈Word Bank III〉，文中會提到他們的下一站，為下個章節引題。
